Sharing my love through natural skin care

Hi! I’m Rachel. My personal quest to live more naturally started in 2005 in the pursuit of healthier living and a better quality of life. I was overweight, unhealthy, and pre-diabetic. My path started with nutrition, then exercise, and last but not least, cleaning the chemicals out of my skincare and home care products. Slowly but surely, I have made sweeping changes to every aspect of my life.

During my research, I made some shocking discoveries. I learned that everything you put onto your skin absorbs into your blood stream and is processed by your internal organs. Upon learning this, I knew I had to use more natural products. Parabens, phthalates, chemical emulsifiers, artificial colors, alcohol, synthetic fragrances (which can have up to 500 unlisted mystery ingredients!), artificial flavors and sweeteners abound in the skin care products that I had been using daily. I read that the average adult absorbs up to five pounds of chemicals in their care products every year! These chemicals have been shown to contribute to hormonal imbalances, cancer, eczema, and a bevy of other illnesses and conditions. Many of the chemical additives are outright banned in other countries, and yet they are somehow still permissible in the United States. Beyond that, many of these ingredients, aside from being outright harmful, are very drying for your skin. Alcohol and water are generally the first two ingredients listed on most “moisturizers” and yet these two ingredients are very drying for skin!

Every winter (and sometimes in the summer), my hands become so dry that my skin cracks to the point of becoming painful. After searching for products to meet my needs naturally, I was disappointed by the offerings available. Nothing that I put on my hands would offer more than momentary relief and nothing was helping to heal my cracked skin. Many “natural” products still were not organic, far from natural, and shockingly contained many of the same questionable ingredients used in non-organic products. I learned that there is no regulation on labeling a product as natural, which only makes it more difficult to find products that are actually natural. I wondered where the simple products with only the necessary ingredients and essential oils for fragrances were. Where were creams that actually added moisture to your skin? I began to do research on making my own products for my dry and sensitive skin. I sourced ingredients, recipes, ordered my first-ever set of essential oils and a book on their many uses, and got to work. My first few batches of hand balms were far from perfect.- but they worked. I kept at it and now my hand balms are my most popular item. Best of all, I no longer suffer from dry, cracked skin. My sugar scrubs have eliminated the pesky razor burn I used to suffer from. My fragrance free holistic hand & body balm has relieved the redness, inflammation, and bumps from Rosacea on my face. I am so pleased to share my handmade organic skin care products with you. I hope you enjoy and benefit from them as much as I have!

The inspiration behind RachelMade

Aunt Rachel is the person who introduced me to essential oils, helped talk me through my journey to good health, and inspired this organic skincare line. On July 4th, 2013, Aunt Rachel passed away from lung cancer a mere 3 months after her diagnosis. I partner with Inheritance of Hope and donate a portion of every sale in her honor and memory.
